Duluth Area Wetlands Inventory (D.A.W.I.)

Wetlands are an important part of Duluth’s natural ("green") infrastructure, and a wetlands inventory is key information to be incorporated into the City’s Comprehensive Plan. Mapping wetlands within whole watersheds, even when those watersheds extend outside the City Limits, allowed a more comprehensive evaluation of their water quality and flood protection functions. This differed from the mapping of forests that was done, which, with a few exceptions, only mapped areas within the City limits.

This project is made possible in part by a grant by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources - Waters and Minnesota’s Lake Superior Coastal Program through the Coastal Zone Management Act, administered through the Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
